The Out of Town Dog Park is at the southeastern corner of the park, making this park a central meeting point for athletic residents, children, and pets. Pet owners can also spend a day with their furry friends at the Green Valley Dog Park, closer to the southern edge of Fernley.

Fort Churchill State Historic Park is 30 minutes south the Fernley, near the Lahontan State Recreation Area in Silver Springs. Fort Churchill's ruins still stand, providing a glimpse into what was once a shelter to early settlers of the area.

Buckland Station was established in 1870 as the new Pony Express stop and home of the Buckland family. You can still tour the pioneer home, located within Fort Churchill State Park.

Fernley summers are warm & dry, with relatively mild winters. Late June to late August is generally the warmest time of year, while December is usually the coldest month.

Historically, February is the month with the most rain in Fernley, with an average rainfall of 0.8 inches.

Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 23°F to 94°F and is rarely below 12°F or above 101°F.

Living in Fernley means enjoying milder weather than in Las Vegas or Reno. Most summers are around 90 degrees, significantly cooler than the 110 degrees that are common in southern Nevada's urban areas during July.

It is also relatively mild during the winter, with the average low in January being about 30 degrees, compared to 15 degrees in urban areas.

It rains a little more in Fernley than it does in Las Vegas or Carson City, but the area doesn't receive anywhere near as much precipitation as Reno.
