Washoe Valley, Nevada Overview

Washoe Valley has a rich, deep history with the native Washoe People’s hunters and gatherers that predates the Comstock Lode and discovery of gold and silver in the valley. Once gold was found in the valley, miners, loggers, and traders invaded the area to move supplies from Lake Tahoe to Virginia City. As the land around Washoe Lake and throughout Washoe Valley developed, Washoe Lake State Park was designated in 1977. The park was created so that future generations could enjoy its beauty.

Today, Washoe Valley rests perfectly between Reno and Carson City, only 25 minutes from Reno and 20 minutes from the state capitol. Valley residents can enjoy the numerous shopping centers available. The Summit Reno is a choice center with over 60 retailers, including eight restaurants like Burger Me!, Miguel’s, and BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. The center has a wide variety of stores from Old Navy to Dilliard’s, and the Sierra Summit Century Theater. Galena Junction Shopping Center has a neighborhood Raley’s, Bully’s Bar & Grill, and Truckee Bagel Company.

Clear Creek Plaza and Carson Valley Plaza of Carson City provide almost anything you could need. There’s a Trader Joe’s, Walmart Supercenter, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Pier 1, and an In-n-Out Burger between the two centers.

Carson City is rich in Nevada’s history. Visit the Nevada State Museum or Nevada State Capitol for a look into our state’s past. Enjoy the County State Fair at Fuji Park, or relax at the Baily Fishing Pond while you wait for your next catch. If you’re looking to try your luck, the Casino Fandango is the closest casino to the valley.
