The Morrill Land Grant Act in 1862 funded the creation of agricultural and engineering colleges in America. Shortly after the act passed, the University of Nevada, Reno was founded in 1874. You can enjoy the rose gardens or the community pool, all west of downtown. Don’t miss Food Truck Fridays at Idlewild during the spring and summer months.
West University covers an area large enough to make multiple school boundaries. Students living on the westside will go to Peavine, Towles, Grace Warner or Elmcrest Elementary School, Clayton Middle School and then McQueen High School or Reno High. Students on the eastern side will go through Lemelson Elementary School and Traner Middle School before entering Hug High School.
