Kiley Ranch, Sparks Overview
Marian Louise McIlravy-Kiley purchased the Nevada Hereford Ranch, naming it the Stead Ranch because of her new husband’s name. Kiley’s sons, Croston Stead and William “Bill” Stead changed the name of their childhood home to the Kiley Ranch in 1980. The brothers were prominent figures in northern Nevada. The Reno-Stead Airport earned its name from Croston Stead and his service to the Nevada National Guard, while William “Bill” Stead brought the STIHL National Championship Reno Air Races to northern Nevada.
Kiley Ranch Golf Course finished construction in 2006 as the discussion of a 650-acre master-planned development around the course materialized. The community has grown with the additions of Waterstone, Croston Springs, and Lennar at Kiley Ranch. The golf course is on the western side of Sparks Boulevard. The 9-hole course is also home to the Kiley Ranch Clubhouse and Bar, a footgolf course, driving range, and ample event space available for rental. Recreational areas like Kestrel Park, Lazy 5 Regional Park, and Golden Eagle Regional Park surround the golf community. Kestrel Park is a neighborhood park south of the Kiley Ranch. The area includes a playground, shaded picnic area, large grass areas, and walking trails leading into surrounding neighborhoods.
Lazy 5 Regional Park is at the northern edge of the Kiley Ranch community. The water play area is incredibly popular in summer months, while the playground, multi-use fields, and Spanish Springs Skate Park attract visitors year-round. Golden Eagle Regional Park is a little further from Kiley Ranch, about a 10-minute drive from the golf course. The park is home to the Golden Eagle Sports Complex boasting six softball fields, two baseball fields, a multi-use soccer or football field, four volleyball courts, and a rock-climbing wall. Enjoy a meal at Red’s Golden Eagle Grill, conveniently placed in the center of the softball fields.
Kiley Ranch has numerous shopping centers nearby. On the corner of Vista Boulevard and Los Altos Parkway, you’ll find Aspen Glen Shopping Center home to the infamous Lighthouse Coffee. Eagle Landing Plaza is only a few minutes north of Kiley Ranch via Pyramid Way. This center includes Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill and Walgreens. In the shopping center across Pyramid Way, you’ll find Save Mart and great restaurants like Moreno’s Mexican Bar & Grill, The Lake Bar & Grill, and Hong Kong Express.
Sparks Galleria is a vibrant shopping center for the community of Sparks. The galleria stretches from Disc Drive to Los Altos Parkway along Pyramid Parkway. The center has a Costco Wholesale, Best Buy, Michaels, Cost Plus World Market, and Bed Bath and Beyond. Restaurants like Campo, Blind Onion Pizza & Pub, Red Robin, and Tha Joint Sushi & Grill serve hungry shoppers between their errands. Fitness Connection is a fantastic exercise facility within Sparks Galleria. Spanish Springs Center is home to favorite local restaurants Squeeze In, Los Compadres, Pizza Baron, and Sneakers Bar.
Students of Kiley Ranch begin their education with the Washoe County School District at Sepulveda Elementary School, followed by Shaw Middle School. Shaw Middle School is across the street from its successor, Spanish Springs High School. The home of the Cougars opened in 2001, making it one of the newest high schools in the school district.
