Glenbrook, Nevada Overview

Glenbrook, Nevada got its name in the 1860s when sawmill owner and settler Augustus W. Pray named the area after the Glenbrook House Hotel, which is still operating today. The Glenbrook House was built in 1863 during the Comstock Lode and for the next decade was known as the most luxurious hotel. Glenbrook is the oldest Lake Tahoe settlement and today, it is a gated community along the shoreline of East Lake Tahoe. Only 150 of 750 available acres have been developed, leaving 600 acres of Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty surrounding these lakeview homes.

Glenbrook is in the center of the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe about 10 miles north of Stateline. From Glenbrook, Carson City is only a 30 minute drive down the mountain and only an hour drive to the heart of Reno. Glenbrook Bay splashes the shores nestled between Deadman Point and South Point. Glenbrook Bay and Glenbrook Shores are exclusively reserved for residents of this private, gated community. If you’re looking to explore the beaches and shores around Glenbrook, check out, Chimney Beach, Secret Cove and Sand Harbor beaches are all within 20 minutes of Glenbrook.

In the 700 acres of surrounding Tahoe forests, there are sensational trails: Marlette Lake, Spooner Summit Trailhead, and Slaughterhouse Canyon Trailhead are just a few. Travel inland only 10 minutes to Spooner Lake inside Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park surrounded by the Lake Tahoe East Shore Forest.

The private Glenbrook Club has tennis courts, a Pro Shop, clubhouse, restaurant and a nine-hole golf course - the first course in the state of Nevada.

With a population of just a few hundred residents, Glenbrook is a quiet and less traveled neighborhood compared to the surrounding areas of Stateline, Zephyr Cove, or Incline Village. It is helpful that Glenbrook has no tourist attractions surrounding its private gates. Douglas County School District buses travel from the gates of Glenbrook to George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove.

When Glenbrook residents want a night out on the town, they head to Stateline and Zephyr Cove. The Montbleu Resort, Casino & Spa, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, and Harveys Lake Tahoe are just 10 miles south of Glenbrook. The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe offers a dining experience for every occasion at The Bistro Edgewood, Edgewood Restaurant, and Brooks’ Bar & Deck.

The Galilee Episcopal Camp and Retreat Center offers summer camp for youth as well as retreats for adults. Spooner Lake is a man-made lake only 3 miles northwest of the neighborhood. Cave Rock State Park is a breathtaking lookout over the lake with a boat launch and small beach. There’s an accompanying Trailhead on the other side of Lincoln Highway, which passes through the namesake rock. Cave Rock has its own Day Go Adventures located in the state park. Neighboring Zephyr Cove also offers kayaking with Clearly Tahoe and snowmobile rentals through Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center
