Glenbrook, Nevada got its name in the 1860s when sawmill owner and settler Augustus W. Pray named the area after the Glenbrook House Hotel, which is still operating today. The Glenbrook House was built in 1863 during the Comstock Lode and for the next decade was known as the most luxurious hotel. Glenbrook is the oldest Lake Tahoe settlement and today, it is a gated community along the shoreline of East Lake Tahoe.
