Donner Springs, Reno Overview
Following the establishment of Hidden Valley and Hidden Valley Country Club, Donner Springs began to sprout in the area south of the country club. The development stretches along Veterans Parkway until it meets the Huffaker Hills Trailhead. This small neighborhood hides behind the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the Mira Loma Shopping Center, north of Double Diamond Ranch.
Donner Springs Elementary School educates the youth of the neighborhood. Next, students head to Vaughn Middle School. Wooster High joined the Washoe County School District in 1962. Great Basin Outdoor School is a program allowing students to attend day or overnight camps throughout northern Nevada studying ecology. The program provides opportunities for both adults and students.
Mira Loma Park is another fantastic park near the community. Mira Loma provides baseball and softball fields, basketball and tennis courts, as well as a soccer and football field. The park is a perfect place to spend the day with your friends or family close to home. Rattlesnake Mountain Skatepark is the only recreational skatepark near the neighborhood, usually filled with skaters and bikers on the weekends.
Double Diamond Athletic Club is an elite fitness center south of Donner Springs. Double Diamond offers personal training, a swim school, and martial arts school in addition to a junior Olympic Indoor Pool and kids club.
Donner Springs is conveniently placed near multiple shopping centers, providing everything you need right outside the community. Mira Loma Shopping Center is a neighborhood shopping center with Raley’s, CVS Pharmacy, and a DMV Kiosk. Meadowood Mall is less than 10 minutes from the community, providing Macy’s, JCPenney, DICK’s Sporting Goods, and The Cheesecake Factory. Smithridge Plaza faces the mall across South McCarran Boulevard. The center has the only Trader Joe’s in town, along with a Nothing Bundt Cakes, Stein Mart, and Men’s Warehouse. Del Monte Plaza is home to Whole Foods Market, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and the local-favorite Great Basin Brewing Company. Firecreek Crossing is home to Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club and a dozen other retailers and restaurants.
