Caughlin Ranch, Reno Overview

Built in 1874, Caughlin Ranch began as a large ranch house in Virginia City. The ranch was disassembled in Virginia City and moved to its current location of 3636 Mayberry Drive in 1895 as the result of a marriage. The community of Caughlin Ranch occupies 6,000 acres of land stretching from the Truckee River to today’s Skyline Boulevard.

Caughlin Ranch’s lush surroundings have shielded it from the rapid growth of the city. Downtown Reno is only a 10-minute drive from the neighborhood, making Caughlin Ranch an ideal escape to suburbia. Village Green Park is a beloved regional park wherein summertime you can catch the Concerts on the Village Green, amongst plenty of additional seasonal community celebrations.

Northwest of the community is Idlewild Park, its northern edges meeting the Truckee River. The park is complete with baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, a tennis court, and a volleyball court. The Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway passes through the recreational area, stretching from Pyramid Lake in the north to Tahoe City. You can relax by the pond and enjoy the sound of the Truckee rushing by, or explore the rose gardens. Idlewild Pool is a hot spot for residents during the summer months in addition to the park’s weekly event Food Truck Friday.

Residents can look to The Caughlin Rancher, a community publication released by the Caughlin Ranch HOA, for a multitude of community events and meetings throughout the year. The Lakeridge Golf Course and Lakeridge Shores Tennis Club are a 10-minute car ride away, bringing more activities and an additional country club to residents of Caughlin Ranch.

Caughlin Ranch Shopping Center is on Caughlin Parkway and South McCarran Boulevard. Inside, you’ll find locally owned and operated Ice Age Meals, Raley’s, Casa Grande, and Anytime Fitness. Ridgeview Plaza is on North McCarran Boulevard and May Anne Avenue. The center includes Safeway, Kohl’s, Wingstop, Ross, Ulta, and Chipotle. Canyon Center Shopping Center is across North McCarran with Save Mart, Flowing Tide, Ijji 4 Korean Bar-B-Que, Walgreens, Chase Bank, and a Planet Fitness to come.

Students begin their education at Caughlin Ranch Elementary School. The school backs up to centrally located Village Green Park, making the park a popular after school stop for parents. Next, students head to Swope Middle School to prepare for their next step of high school. Reno High School serves students of Caughlin Ranch. Reno High was the first high school in the city of Reno opening its doors in 1879 and has been located on Booth Street since 1951.
